About the owners

Meet the family that brought mochi donuts to the KC area!

Johnny Chen and Boggie Otgonbayar took over the donut shop in 2018 from Johnny’s god-parents. Wanting the shop to still feel like home, they’ve continued to make donuts the same way: handmade, fresh, and paired with locally roasted drip coffee.

Originally from Mongolia, Boggie moved to the US for school. Back home, her family regularly baked pastries, made doughs, and cooked traditional foods. She continues this tradition by being the donut shop’s main baker, usually baking with the other bakers during the graveyard shift.

Johnny and his entire family moved to the US from Taiwan. Before the donut shop, Johnny worked in a corporate office here in KC! He left his job in early 2023 to focus on building Mr. D’s and expanding the business. He’s been working hard to incorporate his Asian heritage into the donut shop, like introducing mochi donuts and East Asian flavors (our matcha donuts at Cafe Cà Phê and ube mochi donuts have become fan favorites).

Together, they form the perfect husband-and-wife duo and in 2022, they welcomed their adorable twins, Maddy and Gemma!

The team

Our team consists of:

- 5 bakers who measure, mix, knead, and fry
- 4 glazers who mix up glazes and decorate
- 2 cashiers who are also assistant bakers
- Meilene, our social media manager & content creator
